Spotlight: Schubert at the Piano

Schubert at the Piano, 1899

The Greek industrialist Nikolaus Dumba, a patron of the arts and a music lover, particularly of the music of Franz Schubert, commissioned Klimt to paint two music paintings for decoration above the doors in his music room; one being Music II and the other Schubert at the Piano. In it's time Klimt's Schubert was his most well-known work, it's popularity only surpassed later by The Kiss. Poet, essayist and critic Hermann Bahr once wrote: “In my opinion Klimt’s Schubert is the finest painting ever done by an Austrian."

Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware!

Buyer beware! Do not be fooled into ordering poor quality reproductions that are made overseas!

Here is a recent testimonial from one of our clients:

"I recently purchased a Klimt painting I always wanted from an inexpensive source, the price seemed too good to be true because it was made in China... They totally missed the detailing! Not to mention the fact they used incorrect colors, but overall it was painted crudely. I am so glad to have found your site and will be commissioning more pieces from you after I have resolved this mess I never should have gotten into." - D.N., Cucamonga, CA

Kind Words for The Klimt Collection

Lately we have been receiving many emails of kind words and praise from Klimt admirer's near and far!

One email in particular we'd like to share with you came to us from Dolores Barrett, a glass artist and Klimt admirer:

Dear Klimts,

I just discovered your website this morning and had to write you. I am a glass artist who has long been a fervent admirer of your ancestor's work. His distinct sense of color and style have had such a profound influence on my work, I don't think there is any piece I've created that doesn't suggest its effect.

I recently completed a work Pavane d'Or inspired by the gorgeous gold work of Klimt and the Wiener Werkstatte, and was delighted that is was selected to be in the live auction for the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School On October 23rd (a real honor I had aspired to for years!).

Thank you for all you have done to honor and perpetuate the legacy of Gustav. I feel as if by thanking you, in a small way I am thanking him for sharing his creativity with us all. I look forward to all the inspiration his work will continue to provide me in the future.

Sincerely,

Dolores Barrett
