We hope everyone is enjoying the summer sunshine!

Here at the Klimt Collection we are busy as usual, but wanted to take a moment to share some news and updates:

• Testimonials of praise and thanks are given to us everyday from our fabulous (and satisfied!) clients. Please have a look at what they have to say about our work here at our Testimonials page.

And many thanks from us to all of our wonderful clients!

• In April of last year Prestel published a great little book about Klimt, simply titled Gustav Klimt. It can be found at Amazon.com here

"Klimt Today" is a section in the book devoted to Klimt's ever-thriving popularity in today's day and age, even giving some mention and details behind the film Klimt.

According to the book, the talented actress Sharon Stone is a "great admirer" of Klimt's work!

(Incidentally, we at the Klimt Collection are great admirer's of your work, Sharon!)

• Klimt's work and influence can be found literally everywhere nowadays! Another example of Klimt's far-reaching influence was discovered in a recent issue of a Marvel comic book...

Artist Adam Pollina has slipped in an homage to Klimt's Water Serpents in the background of a panel in a book he pencilled called Angel.

The detail is highlighted here:

One never knows where a Klimt will turn up!

Klimt Frieze in Liverpool

Floating Genii, Poetry

Gustav Klimt's monumental installation, “The Beethoven Frieze,” measuring more than 100 feet in length and celebrating the unification of all the arts, will be reconstructed at the Tate Liverpool museum in what is billed as Britain’s first comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the artist, Reuters reported. The show, scheduled for May 30 to Aug. 31 as part of Liverpool’s designation as a European Capital of Culture for 2008, will examine the role of Klimt (1862-1918) in the Secession movement, which inspired artists, architects, fashion designers and furniture makers. Klimt created “The Beethoven Frieze,” detail above, for the Secession’s 14th exhibition, in 1902. Though it was to be destroyed after the show, a patron of the movement ordered it removed and stored, and the Austrian state eventually acquired and restored it for exhibition in the Secession building in Vienna.

Gustav Klimt: From Drawing to Painting

"Gustav Klimt: From Drawing to Painting"
by Christian Nebehay

Pick up a copy from Amazon here

Review From Library Journal:
This lavish book invites the reader to step into late 19th-century Vienna, with its intricately detailed social life and sumptuous luxury, not unlike the work of the artist who is the book's focus. The author, who knew Klimt in his last years and is a noted Klimt scholar, has brought together the paintings and the drawings from which they emerged in a way that enriches our knowledge of the artist and enhances the visual impact of his work. Using original sources, newly uncovered material, and a wealth of personal photographs, Nebehay provides a look into the major influence of Klimt upon his fellow artists and upon his society: his role as the first president of the Vienna Secession; his place in the lives of his students, among them Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka; and his interaction with all the major figures of this most dangerously intoxicating and exhilarating time. The book conveys the passions that were the subject of Klimt's work and his life. Highly recommended.

For those interested in history and art, the documentary The Rape of Europa is a must-see:

The Rape of Europa tells the epic story of the systematic theft, deliberate destruction and miraculous survival of Europe’s art treasures during the Third Reich and World War II.

In a journey through seven countries, the film takes the audience into the violent whirlwind of fanaticism, greed, and warfare that threatened to wipe out the artistic heritage of Europe. For twelve long years, the Nazis looted and destroyed art on a scale unprecedented in history. But heroic young art historians and curators from America and across Europe fought back with an extraordinary campaign to rescue and return the millions of lost, hidden and stolen treasures.

The Rape of Europa begins and ends with the story of artist Gustav Klimt’s famed "Gold Portrait" (of Adele Bloch-Bauer), stolen from Viennese Jews in 1938 and now the most expensive painting ever sold.
